Blogging - A Retrospective

This transitionary year back into school after such a long period of self-isolation allowed me to reflect upon myself academically and personally. This thematic approach taught me the twisted past of American contexts and the complexities within modern day society because of the foundations implanted by history. My writing was very mechanical in the beginning of the year because I felt like I had to follow some kind of format. As time progressed, I felt the freedom in letting my writing flow. It was an experimental year. USC has a very advanced underclassmen batch and I believed that benefitted the collaborative aspect of this class. Every single piece of insight, feedback, or conversations about my interests and topics translated into a web of consciousness that developed my ideas and reinforced the content of my writing.  Beyond WRIT-150, I want to continue writing about my thoughts, whether that be through journaling or blogging (or maybe even tweeting). It's like speakin...

WP4 - Blog Entry 1 - The Facebook Lizard

Remember when there was a joke that took the Internet by storm that claimed Mark Zuckerberg not being human? Well, during that time, he was testifying amidst his company's scandal on the discrete use of user information from approximately 50 million individuals in collaboration with Cambridge Analytica during the Trump Campaign. The multibillionaire tech CEO apologizes for the company's lack of effort in protecting user information because it is ultimately an invasion of privacy and an endangerment of personal security. This was controversial because Facebook was stealing user information without any knowledge from the public and selling their data to multiple outlets, which included Cambridge Analytica, during the Trump Campaign in order to increase political advantage. As a CEO Mark Zuckerberg came out and apologized with a mission statement from Facebook to regain public trust and better his self image. With his personality alone, his statement lacked emotion due to his mono...

WP3 - Blog Entry 2 - Socioeconomic Differences between White and Black Soldiers in the Civil War

Academic Source Review: Socioeconomic Differences in the Health of Black Union Soldiers During the American Revolution                    My topic deals with the existing inequalities between African American soldiers and American soldiers during the Civil War. There is an evident disregard for the role that black soldiers played in the Civil War as the topic is often not covered when taught about in American history. This academic article logistically explored a selection of black soldiers in the Union Army and essentially compared them to white soldiers to demonstrate the inequalities through the treatment of the soldiers in regards to their health and well-being. The idea that soldiers were in the army for the fight for their freedom holds true as the source confirms the documented amount of slaves holds the majority of the black population in the army.        ...

WP3 - Blog Entry #1 - Glory

The people who wrote history were the victors. With missing key components in explaining history, a possible topic for a reevaluation in history can possibly be the role of African American soldiers during the American Revolution. The prompting of this topic came from the film "Glory" that told the story of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, which was one of the biggest sections of African American soldiers that composed the Continental Army.      This topic would be suitable for the reevaluation because information about the opportunities that were offered from African Americans during the American Revolution. Even though their operations lead to failure and plenty of casualties, their story is worth telling because of the spirit of African American soldiers that were prominent because of their desire to participate whilst partitioning for the abolition of slavery.

Assignment #2 - Blog Entry #2 - Nixon's Defeat

The main objective of students protesting was for President Richard Nixon to ultimately pull American forces from Cambodia with hopes of gradually removing American involvement in the Vietnam War. On May 26, 1970, President Nixon seized his operations to invade Cambodia. It can be implied that the anti-war movement was one critical factor that contributed to the overbearing pressure on the American government, that ultimately resulted in Nixon to end his invasion of Cambodia in hopes of ending the Vietnam War. Overall, the students gained an impressive amount of public support from the nation as it seemed that a tragic event formulated a wave of anger and sadness that only brought people together to combat global conflict and promote the practice of peace.      Although these protestors achieved their goal of ending Nixon's operation to invade Cambodia, there was this lasting impact on the supporters of the cause as there was an introduction of t...

Assignment #2 - Blog Entry #1 - The Kent State Protest

Protest Turned Tragedy  The late 60s and early 70s was a time for a calling of peace. The younger generation were notably known for their loud voices, powerful marches, and contagious messages. During this period, there was a spark in the Anti-War Movement where younger individuals protested against the deployment of more American troops to avoid more casualties. On top of casualties, there was a universal theme of "peace" to help dissolve global conflict and end armed warfare. To narrow down on a crucial event that catalyzed the movement for anti-war, students from Kent State University held a protest with a mission to put a halt to President Nixon's operation to deploy more troops in Cambodia during the Vietnam War.  Through loud marches, powerful signs and piercing voices, students were peacefully expressing their strong feelings against increased American involvement in the Vietnam War. They were emphasizing the need for peaceful negotiation and a decrease in war-tec...
